After a long love affair with joggers I have come to the conclusion they are the mullet of the fashion industry…
Ready for business and ready to party.
I wanted to take a peep back at a blog I wrote about joggers in September of 2015.
I discussed a pair of $10 joggers I had found from the Dollar General. My closet accepts any and ALL price points!
This was a glimpse at how I was dipping my toe into the jogger world. I guess we could say today is a glance at how I’m still cruising the jogger lap lane
after three years.
I just remembered I actually shot the photos for that jogger blog myself on a tripod.
When you see today’s blog pictures you will see why my life is way easier when I use Laura Fulmer for my shoots. She gets me, she gets the VIBE, she is the BEST.
But Lyv why the “mullet” of the fashion industry?
Joggers have evolved. They’re being made in better quality fabrics, more stylish cuts and in actual suit pairings with a matching jacket and pant.
Mullets are a pop culture icon for being “business in the front party in the back”. Let’s take a look at three of the most influence mullets over American history.
1. Billy Ray Cyrus.
If you don’t know every word to “Achy Breaky Heart” then you need to ask yourself if you’re really an American because that song is what the foundation of mullet-merica is built on.
Sidenote:
In my mullet research I discovered Billy Ray or Mr. Cyrus, not sure how we address him, wrote a song called “I Want My Mullet Back” in 2006. I don’t know how to feel about this.
2. Joe Dirt.
“Life’s a garden, dig it.”
3. Kenny Powers.
Kenny Powers is what I would consider the most relevant mullet of current pop culture. East Bound & Down is beyond ridiculous and entertaining.
What mullets have been most influential or memorable in your life?!
Back to the joggers…
ready for business and ready to party, let’s discuss the business vibe first.
The white jogger suit used for this lewk is from Zara. I’ll provide the links below.
I will be the first to admit for an office/business look a mesh panel bodysuit probably would not be the most appropriate choice. However, we can easily swap that out for a black mock turtle neck for a super sophisticated vibe.
The black and white color combination really sold me on this suit.
Black and white is a timeless impression. I have a black strappy sandal styled here, but if you click the links to the joggers on the Zara website they show the model in black booties which I love just as much! So you truly can take this look through fall, winter and into spring/summer.
The gold fringe clutch I styled with this ensemble was a gift from Chris’s grandmother, Jeanne.
She gave me a few of her evening bags she no longer used and I love them! I love pairing a fun evening bag with day looks. Also, it let’s your kids and husband know, HEY, I am not here to carry your crap! Not today!
Now let’s switch lanes to the party side of joggers.
For the nighttime vibe I switched out my sandal to a funky feather chunky mule (say that 5 times fast!). This suit effortlessly goes from day to night with little styling change.
For a more drastic night out jogger attire I’ve tapped back into some 90s influence.
These rainbow striped joggers instantly took me back to Gwen Stefani “don’t speak” memories. There were crazy affordable from the SheIn website which also features lots of rainbow stripe pieces! Links provided below!
I also provided the link to a crop that I think would be a better option for this vibe versus the one I used for this shoot. When I wear this crop I typically style one of my denim jackets over it to balance out all of the skin showing.
Our last jogger getup brings back another influence we have previously discussed, vintage t-shirts!
This Whitney vintage t-shirt is from NastyGal. We miss you Whitney!!
This vest is a current fall obsession for me.
It’s BCBG!! I found it over the summer at one of the few outlet stores that still exists and I found it online to share with ya’ll! This will not be the last time you see this vest, I also recently used it in an upcoming release on Adidas dresses.
You might have noticed a pattern!
A lot of my topics of discussion circle back or are trends I incorporate into new discussions. That is the goal! Just because we discuss an article of clothing once doesn’t mean we can’t discuss it again. What has changed about it? How is it still relevant? So on and so forth. We want to be able to walk into our closet and be able to grab pieces for seasons to come! And to be confident in those choices and style decisions!
I just finished a shoot for my end of year and beginning of 2019 content with Laura Fulmer who shot the VERY first shoot for this website FOUR years ago. And I am SO excited to share those LEWKS with you!! On my fourth anniversary I plan on doing a post of all the outtakes of BAD pictures I haven’t used over the years. Because even with a professional photographer, SERIOUS makeup and good clothes I promise I still can look like a POTATO!! So stay tuned, The Potato Diaries are coming up in December with so much great stuff in between.
Until next time…
push your shoulders back and silently demand the attention of the room, because being you rocks!
