Holy crap this year has been bananas!!
I don’t travel with my computer, so I’m a little behind in sharing my fashion thoughts with you. Sooo March is the new January!!
I will say this post is a little different. It won’t be about WHY you need to run and go buy a neck tie blouse but rather, WHY we don’t need to judge each other by our fashion covers.
However, I will share with you some neck tie blouses I love and how I like to style them when the occasion calls.
The fun about having freedom in fashion is our right to switch up styles according to what we want and what makes us feel great.
I always strive to trickle a little bit of empowerment into each post, but I wanted to make this post specifically about that right.
The neutral tones in my blouse and tweed shorts made it easy for me to play the prints against each other without creating chaos. I layered my black cape blazer to calm the volume of the lewk down a bit and bring the eye down to my pumps.
Actually all three pieces are from Forever21 and the pumps are Jessica Simpson.
Whether we decide to dress conservative or risqué we aren’t assigned any certain label.
For example, wearing a neck tie blouse doesn’t make us a snob and deciding to dress risqué for an event doesn’t make us a slut.
Slut, ouch that’s a harsh word!! It really is…and here’s why I wanted to share this experience with you.
A few years ago I went to a Sam Hunt concert with my husband and my parents, in JULY at the PNC Pavillion in Charlotte. (If you’re not familiar, this is an outdoor concert venue.)
Anybody who has a pulse knows at that time of the year it is hotter than the devils ass crack.
A few things about country concerts…I like to dress the part when we see country artist. SHOCKER, I know, which means cut off jean shorts, bedazzled belts, whatever the hell I feel like. I do the same when we go to Nashville, a little when in Rome mentality ya know?
Also, my husband, loves when I wear short shorts. I love to use fashion to express myself, but I also love to use fashion to attract my husband because guess what, WE’RE MARRIED!
I posted a picture of all of us before the concert on Facebook. Let me say I totally understand when you are putting your life on a public platform you are inviting people into your life to experience these moments with you and also, to judge you.
Recently it got back to me that someone I knew screenshot this picture and sent it to my friends saying, “Why does she have to dress like such a slut with her parents?”
First, let me say, and hear me through this screen. This did not hurt my feelings. If you read the intro on my homepage I talk about hiding in the bathroom in 7th grade and crying because kids at school were making fun of me, GUESS WHAT for dressing like a snob. So at this point in my journey of fashion or concert attire I do not give a damn what people think. I know I’m not a slut, even if my boobs or legs are showing.
Second, there is NOTHING I could do to embarrass my parents. Chris and I took them to Key West last year to celebrate my birthday together and my Dad paid the band to call me on stage to dance and play the tambourine while he yelled, “THAT’S MY BABYYY!!!”
My parents have been together since they were 16. My Dad loves when my mom wears Spanx leggings. The first time she got a pair she came home and tried them on for him and he sent her back for two more pair. She still, after 40 years of marriage, dresses to attract him too.
Having said ALL of that. Why are we labeling each other snobs and sluts?!
At the end of the day, it’s just a fucking outfit.
It doesn’t determine who or what I am, or you!!
If we want tie up a pretty bow and be a lady for the day, DO IT!

Sometimes I layer a neck tie blouse under a risqué dress to offset the amount of skin being shown, because I do understand not every event calls for the tatas to be on display.
Laura and I shot this series of pictures a few years back when my hair was short.
We are all allowed to have our own comfort zone in fashion, but just because someone else’s comfort zone is different than yours doesn’t make their choices wrong or slutty.
I love the mixed textures of this look using velvet and lace. The boots give it a rocker chic vibe.
The style of a neck tie blouse doesn’t have to be ultra conservative.
I honestly love how I’ve styled the trend from one extreme to another for this post.
Before we go on let’s take a moment to drool over the official neck tie blouse, a Gucci pussycat blouse.
And YES that’s a real term! It actually is sometimes shortened to just “pussy bow”. The term began in the 20th century. I don’t own one, however when I browse high end consignment stores I search for one that would be a great investment piece. I’ve linked a few below to stare at for a few minutes.
GUCCI PUSSYCAT BLOUSES
Just remember when you look in the mirror to head out the door not everyone is going to get your style.
But that’s not your problem!! You don’t have to please others by holding back your own sense of style! If this is who you are and what makes you feel good then that is your choice in fashion.
NEVER feel obligated to change your style ways to make someone else feel more comfortable about who they are. This is our life to LYV!!
Sorry it took me so long to get back to ya in 2020, but don’t worry, we’re still in this together.
Also, I want to add, if you see another woman stepping outside her comfort zone to try something new give a freaking compliment. Kindness is free and it goes a long way.
Remember what I said in this post when you go to walk out the door…
And as always, remember to push your shoulders back and that chin up because being you ROX!!!
Until next time!
