Panic is setting in and family members are starting to appear from the weeds. SHIT!! There are still a few last minute gifts to finish.
So guess what…we’re just gonna throw books at them and hope for the best. If they’re still alive by the end of the gift exchange, they get a book.
In all seriousness, I love books and despite the way I talk on here sometimes I actually know how to read as well. I know… it’s great news!!
Some of the books I’m going to suggest are not new, just choices that I enjoyed flipping the pages of during 2018.
I’m not in a book club, I’m the WORST at that stuff so please don’t ask me to join one. I’ll just ruin it and dismantle the whole club. Then we’ll all end up on an FBI watch list because CLEARLY you all quit your jobs to help me try and figure out who killed JonBenet Ramsey. No matter what your husband says, it was the right thing to do.
There is no rhyme or reason to my book selections. I typically go for reality pop culture, murder mystery or fashion history.
Throughout this discussion you can click on each book image for a new tab to open and take you straight to that choice on Amazon.com.
Growing up and reading about this story in my mom’s People magazine was an obsession for me.
Something re-sparked my interest (I think it was when her brother released an interview.) and I began reading this book. My problem is, when I read a real-life murder mystery it CONSUMES my life. I became oddly obsessed with finding out every detail. The point of view and insight the book provides in wildly entertaining, however it leaves you staring at the wall just thinking…what the f*ck?! It touches on the power of money, and the power money can have over authority figures while knowing the right people. It’s mind blowing and ultimately sad that no answers were ever resolved for that beautiful girl.
I almost enrolled in the FBI after I read it.
I have been INFATUATED with the Versace Mansion since the first time I fell onto the steps out of a cab at 3 am.
As a designer I have always admired Versace. When the FX series began to film, it was discussed the storyline was based on a book, “Vulgar Favors”. Chris got me this book at the beginning of this year and it TOOK OVER MY LIFE. It was so much information that I found myself rereading parts again and again. Andrew Cunanan is a paralyzing character that I still am trying to wrap my brain around. More importantly it sheds light into what a botched man hunt it was because it involved a gay man on the run. Chasing him was not a priority to the FBI and innocent lives were taken because of that carelessness. What happened on the steps at the Versace Mansion sits on my heart completely different after reading this book. This book changed me and changed how I look at those steps when I visit South Beach.
I am a self-proclaimed Bravo TV junkie!
I have read and loved all of the Andy Cohen books. So naturally when my favorite leading lady, Erika Jayne, released, “Pretty Mess” I was on the pre-order list. It was very much her, entertaining, honest and to the point. It truly shows how much she loves and respects her Pretty Mess Team.
I had the opportunity to briefly meet them all at her concert in Charlotte and not only is she the real deal with her voice but her team was there to put on a show and knock it out of the park. Everyone was the REAL DEAL.
MEGA ULTIMATE GRAND SUPREME.
Iris is ultimately who I want to be when I grow up.
The Netflix documentary was what encouraged me to look up books on Iris. The majority of my fashion related books are for show and presentation on tables.
I like to keep Iris on my bedside table, because at night I wear glasses. My glasses are HUGE, so actually I’m like 12 bracelets away from being twins will my beloved Iris.
Last year my mom got me Joan Rivers, “Confidential” as my Christmas present.
I am such a nerd that I cried!!! I CRIED!! I just was heartbroken when Joan died. A part of American Comedy died when she passed. She could say things and people just took it. Now everyone get’s their panties in a wad over how the wind blows.
She was a badass and a honey badger. This book is also on my bedside table. I admire and look up to Joan tremendously.
“Decades: A Century of Fashion”, is the ultimate coffee table bible of fashion.
I am so fortunate my paths were able to cross briefly with the author, Cameron Silver, this past fall. He was at the Blake downtown off Devine St. with the traveling Decades trunk show. Not only was I able to get a signed copy of his book. but I found this exquisite Ann Demeulemeester black skirt in the trunk show for purchase. I took home two amazing treasures and included them in a recent shoot with my partner in crime Laura.
Thank you for your kindness and assistance in finding such treasures Cameron!
Maybe serious books aren’t for you?
No problem!! Cussing coloring books are sure to relief stress and produce fun!
So grab a cute pencil bag and color some shit with your girlfriends!!
And now for the most important portion of our book discussions. Inappropriate children’s books.
I keep this book on our coffee table downstairs because it always ignites a funny conversation.
Sometimes it’s just best for everyone to get comfy with a fresh cocktail and read it out loud as a group.
“They drove in silence…”
“until Sally said quietly, without looking up from her book.”
“Someone farted.”
A timeless debate!!! Like biggie or Tupac?!
I think there is a series set on Walter.
Apparently, he gets kicked off a cruise because he won’t stop farting. Walter is not giving a DAMN!!! This is great material.
I hope some of the books have inspired you and knocked out some last minute panic!
Let me know which ones you like!!
Until next time…being you rocks BUT someone farted?
