When I think of cold weather I think of going to see the Nutcracker during the Holiday season as a child.
It was a “girls’ day” tradition my grandmother Doris started, whom you have heard me talk about so frequently. When I was little girl all of my father’s side of the family lived in Aiken so the cousins were pretty inseparable.
This was always a highly anticipated event because I got a special outfit!
Obviously.
My mom would dress me up in my special outfit and I would endlessly beg to wear lipstick.
Seriously the main reason I took up dance was because I got to wear a full face of makeup at the dance recital.
I would go on to be captain of my college dance team and apply everyone’s competition makeup! Dedicated to that glitter life!!!
Once I was ready my mom would try to make me put on my jacket. Even as a little girl I KNEW, this was a special outfit I am NOT covering it with a yuck jacket Mom?! And I would ask the question that every child asks, “WHY DO I HAVE TO WEAR A JACKET?!”. And she would say, “Because it’s cold Lyv.” BUT MOM I can’t wear my “everyday” jacket I need a special jacket!!!
Bless yew Donna.
SIDENOTE: In the picture above, that was all the hair life had given me at that point. Not a haircut in sight, just two little pitiful pigtails! I think my mom tied ribbon bows to try to make them look fuller and I appreciate the hell out of that Mom. Thank you for being innovative.
SO!! One year for Christmas my other grandma, Grandma Roberts, bought me a statement jacket to wear to the Nutcracker…
Complete with hand warmer!
Look at how happy I am in this picture!! This picture was directly after I opened the gift. I immediately put it on over my pajama dress and probably walked around the neighborhood in it.
You best BELIEVE I was hiding some snacks up in that hand warmer! My mom figured it out and told me she’d take it away so I stopped PRONTO.
I’m still about that snack life!
But Mom was right, sometimes it’s cold as shit so we need a jacket.
BUT we can’t sacrifice all of our cute outfit hard work…we still want to make a statement!
Therefore, we are discussing statement jackets that keep us warm without compromising our cuteness.
I’ve linked my favorite faux fur finds below that are all under $50!!
But what if we just want to jazz up an every day casual vibe?! Let’s make a statement with a pop of metallic.
Typically during the week my standard procedure uniform is all black workout attire. This gold longline windbreaker from Forever21 has been a great way to break up my repetitive all black cycle!
In the description on the F21 website says this color is “gold”, but I would say its more of a copper tone.
It’s not bright and offensive at all, in my gypsy opinion.
We will be seeing a larger presence of metallics in the fashion industry this Spring and Summer!
Considering our weather can be pretty fickle, maybe it won’t be cold as shit when you need to make a statement.
These metallic fringe jackets are back again! I styled them into a previous post, “Star Prints: Christmas Coachella” and I just can’t QUIT them!! They are currently on sale for 50% off!
So let’s grab some snacks and make a statement!
We can still be stylish and sheltered from whatever climate the weather is deciding to be today!
Have some fun and turn some heads…because that feeling ROX!
Until next time
